How big is each kimochi?

It's been a few years since I gave them to my grand-daughter, but if I remember correctly, each emotion is about 2 inches in diameter. Hope this helps.

Are these balls or pillows?

They are small and round plush, more like a pillow than a ball, but can be thrown similar to a light beanbag.
