Provides all the functions needed and they can be performed in the dark.
Generally, don't review an item I haven't been using for very long. But these remotes work great. Programing was simple and quick. Touch any button and they light up in the dark. Our room is about 16 feet deep, and these have zero issues with controlling our tv and or DVD player. They have the range to reach our devices, and those devices respond instantly to commands. Have been able to do the basics of course but also have been able to control the tv's settings, such as speaker output, internet connection, all the menu functions that our LG tv remote could do, but I can do it in the dark. Shame on LG for not providing remotes for their products that you can use in the dark. If I had one complaint, that would be, you have to push a button to get the remote to light up. When we had COX as our cable provider, they supplied a remote that once it was moved, it would light up automatically. Wake up LG. But thank you GE for providing a nicely designed remote that does everything I need and can be used in the dark.

So far, so good!
The remote to my tv stopped working & reaching for the buttons on the back grew old real fast. And the use of separate remotes for 3 devices was already annoying. This remote is easy to program. The light colored buttons make it easy to locate on my dark upholstery & I like their placement. Mute is very important when commercials are a possibility, so I prefer it in an easily accessible location. The blue backlight is brighter than necessary, but it’s certainly easy to read in the dark! lol I like the compact size of the remote. But as another has mentioned, the rounded back isn’t a great design, as the remote tends to roll off the arm off the sofa too easily.I was surprised to find a universal remote, with all the features I wanted at this price…I hope it stands the test of time!

Works with Roku Express Stick (but not with Roku+ Stick)...
Nicely designed in terms of form factor. I bought the black model that allows you to choose backlight colors. I had a lot of frustration trying to program my Roku+ Stick (this is one of the "better" ones in the product line with built in volume controls), but none of the codes worked. Before I decided to pack in in and return it, I combed through the Amazon Q&A section and found people saying that it seems to work with the Roku Express stick. This was interesting because the official feedback from the company was incorrect - they state that the remote only works with full-on Roku TVs, not the stick products. Seeing this info from that astute Amazon customer, I grabbed the Roku Express Stick from a different TV and swapped it out in the room and television where I wanted the GE Universal Remote to work. It worked just liked it should - I got it working in one shot, the first code "took" and I was in business. / None of this would have been necessary if Roku had better designed products with backlighting built in. In a darkened bedroom at night, it's hard to see your controls. / The moral of this story is that the GE Universal remote works exactly as I had hoped. It control both TV and Streaming device (plus other stuff like DVD players), all in one simple, backlit remote. I'm beyond happy with the quality and price.

Quick and Easy Set-Up; Mediocre DVD control
I was very pleased and impressed with how quickly the remote connected to both my (10+ year-old Vizio) TV and my (1-year-old Roku Express) streaming media player. I entered the listed codes manually, for both devices. In both cases, the first code listed worked like a charm. I'm not very techy, but after reading and following the instructions, it all went very smoothly for both devices.I love that the buttons light up, and are a good size to read. They feel just a little spongey when pressed (I prefer a more defined, firm, "click" feel for buttons), but it was manageable. When entering numeric codes that ended with 5, I had to push the 5 twice to get it to light up and connect. Not sure whether that was intended/designed, or a result of the spongey-ness.I also have a (5-year-old Samsung) DVD player whose remote had been corroded over time. I purchased what I thought was the replacement remote for the model/serial number, but it didn't work. It's possible my DVD player is old enough that dedicated remotes are no longer available. That was my initial reason for trying this universal remote. I hoped the universal remote would control all the same functions as the old, included DVD remote. This universal remote does power my DVD player on and off, and it does open and close the DVD drawer. But I couldn't get it to show the DVD menu (for options like subtitles or special film features). I manually entered every code listed for a Samsung DVD player, and some of those codes did work to power on/off, and open/close the drawer. I then cycled through the instructions to let the remote seek and find its own codes, with the same result. I tested a few different DVDs, but never could get as far as playing the movie, so I couldn't test pause, fast forward, or rewind functions (I saw only the opening FBI warning screen and producer logo screens). Maybe my DVD player is just finally dying, and no remote can help.On closer inspection, I realized that this universal remote's description and instructions indicate only that it will power on/off and open/close DVD players; there is nothing that says it can access DVD menus or control playback. It's possible a newer DVD player might accept more codes or connect with more DVD functions. So overall, this is a really great remote for at least TVs and Streaming; it may work very well with newer, fancier DVD players and other components as well. The instructions are clear, and set-up was fully complete within 30-60 seconds for 2/3 of my devices.
