can you put it on their coat?

Yes, you can put it on their coat, but very carefully & lightly, since neither you are your creature should breathe in this fine powder. It isn't healthy on the lungs. I normally put about a quarter cup of powder in a bowl and dilute with water, and soak a wash cloth in the it, and wring out the cloth then wipe the pets ear flaps inside/outside, then wipe down their coat, underbelly & tail, this way there is no powder dust flying around.

If I sprinkle this in the grass will it kill mosquitoes and gnats?

Call the manufacturer, HARRIS, they know. People at their main office are very knowledgeable and helpful. They helped me.

Just ordered, why does it say to use a respirator and googles? That kinda concerns me about is begging safe? How much per “cup” of food

Respirator and googles is due to the fact that this type of product is a powder that creates a light dust when it is handled. You do not want to breathe it or get it in your eyes. Think of baby powder how when it's handled it creates a "puff" of dust.... same effect, different product. I'm glad they put this warning on the package, the first time I used this product (different brand) I found out the hard way... I accidently inhaled some which is so easy to do (since it is that fine powder). I was dry coughing for weeks. Don't get me wrong I LOVE this product, you just have to know how to handle it so it minimizes irritation to you and your pets. I would suggest once the product is received, emptying the contents into a plastic container with a screw on lid. It avoids a lot of the "puff" issue when you open and close the resealable bag it comes it. And be VERY careful the first time you open it. (contents shift in transit and some powder may be in the top where it reseals. learned from experience.)

Can i insert it into my cats dry food jar and feed it to her as it is or does it have to be given with wet food?

I don’t have cats,but I did put it in my chickens feed and all over the inside of their coop and nest boxes. Make sure you get food grade. Non food grade that inhave seen has seven dust in it. Great for killing fleas also!
