Should there be some sort of cover/seal when opening new?

If I understand your question, when I receive my jar of scrub, I open the lid and there is a paper seal that has to be removed before actually getting to the scrub itself. Does that help?

Try turning the jar on it side and tap on a hard surface a few times. This worked for me

Is this a gentle scrub? All the other dove body scrubs have a "gentle" meter on the outside

This is a little more gritty than some of the other Dove products but it is not overly to the point of being like sandpaper. Product works very well on getting rid of dead skin cells on the body. I wouldn’t recommend it for use on the face. It leaves your skin smooth and healthy. I have fair skin and this has been a great product for me.

Does the Lavender one have the same exfoliation as the Mango one?

I have not used the mango, however, i would assume the formulation is the same in all of the products, it's just the scent notes that will vary.
