How will this monitor work with a Mac? Is the refresh rate good for gaming? Watching fast action movies?

Does work with Mac, assuming your Mac supports 4K output.30hz is pretty bad for gaming unless it is low-motion stuff like Plants vs Zombies, because 30hz limits you to 30 frames per second and feels laggy no matter what you are doing (gaming or not!).All movies, fast or slow, should be okay since movies are almost always filmed at just 24 frames per second.My advice is to wait 3 to 6 months for other 4k monitors to come out with 60 hz capability. Right now, there are no true 4k movies for sale, and unless you spent a fortune on your computer (> $3000), then chances are it won't play recent games very well at 4k resolution.

Why is the list price of this monitor lower than the lower-spec Dell U2713HM mo\ nitor ( $699.99 versus $799.99 ) ?

It is a different type of panel. Factors on the cost of a monitor would be size,reolution,panel type,bezel size and options

I see this is a TN Screen VS IPS. Do you see the difference withi this 4K monitor? Especially with photographic work?

I don't really do photographic work. It is far superior to the old TN screen it replaced. Without putting an IPS display next to it I couldn't make a decent comparison. Now that Dell is running sales on their 24" 4K IPS display I'd take a closer look at that. If you do get this 28" display keep fluorescent lights away from it. Fluorescent flicker plus 30Hz refresh = ugh.
