How is the noise level ? have the Aqua clear 110 and its a bit rattly

I've been in the hobby over 40 years. I recently purchased a Tidal 110 and I can honestly say this thing is the LOUDEST HOB filter I've ever owned. I'm not talking about the splashing water or the hum of the filter. I'm talking about the unbearably loud rattling of the impeller. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in... didn't do anything to alleviate the noise. I tried reseating the impelling in the impeller housing... again, it did nothing to reduce the noise. Just like Andy P, I opened a support case with Seachem and they said they will send me a replacement pump to see if that works. I'll update if and when it arrives.

Will the tidal 110 fit a tall petsmart topfin 20 gallon tall aquarium? does anyone know?

While I believe it may fit Seachem has other hang on the back filters that would better fit your needs. The 110 refers to the gallons of tank. They have a Tidal 35, Tidal 55, Tidal 75, and Tidal 110. For your 20 gallon tall I'd recommend the Tidal 35. While it is made for a 35 tank more filtration is a good thing. The concern with going too big would be the flow of water coming out of the filter. A Tidal 35 would be perfect for your needs.

Can I put it on the side of the tank?

It would fit on the side of your tank if you have a tank with a side greater than 11.5 inches.. But if you have a glass top that fits over the tank the glass top would pose a problem.

How long is the intake tube fully extended?

This again is misleading.. it’s 7-1/2” extended from the pump which housing which is already 7+ inches submerged into the tank. I’ve not measure the total length installed but my 110 is on a 44h corner hex which is if memory serves 28” tall. The intake with a small prefilter sponge on it is only a few inches from the bottom which is perfect. Wonthe soonge prefilter I would guess it’s around 6” or so off the substrate. That would give a total rim to bottom reach somewhere around 20” or so making it more then enough for most tanks.
