This has a consistent grinded appearance and texture and smells fresh. It works great for applying over new seed as a sort of nutritious peat moss. I plan to buy this fairly regularly as a soil improver and mild organic fertilizer. I can't say how effective it was on new growth rates but the grass turned out well so it probably works.

I have shifted mostly to container gardening and needed to "recharge" my used container "soil." This is an excellent way to provide some organic matter to lifeless peat based products. Used with other products, this is a great way to improve the mixture, especially if you are able to mix it in a wheel barrow before filling your containers. It breaks down for use pretty quickly so it is great for early season crops like peas or broccoli, etc. It heats the soil a bit, so don't get too carried away with quantity added. I used about 2 quarts in each 5 gal container along with the bagged container soil

It’s certainly alfalfa. Chopped up pretty good. I think I got it discounted for whatever reason because the price wasn’t bad…but usually down to earth is way more expensive than it should be
