My local pet store sometimes has trial size bags you can buy. I just have a 10lb shih tzu so the 2lb bags of ziwipeak last her for a whole month of meals. If you have several &/or large dogs then it might be worth it to get the 2lb bag to use as treats. While there are no preservatives in it, it is air dried to last a while. I've never noticed any difference in the food between the day I opened it and the day at the end of the month that I feed the last cup out of the bag. So I wouldn't really worry about it going bad or anything. Just make sure the pouch is sealed and don't store it in direct sunlight.

Will my picky dog eat this?

Sounds like a lot. Maybe a cup a day, or less. These are really good and my dog loves them, she is about 35 # and gets maybe 1/2 cup per day.
