Why wont incense sticks stay lit

A few tips! Incense is not perfect, like anything else. It's actually pretty simple by design. All it is is a thin core of wood (usually sandalwood) coated in fragrant resin and dried. Lighting incense will literally make it come to life, awakening the oils in the resin and reacting to the heat. When you initially light your incense, you want to make sure that you get a good hot cherry rolling at the top (be careful, it's very hot!) and that the wood catches it as well. Then, a little airflow will help ensure that it keeps burning until the end. The resin coating is the reason why incense is able to burn on its own without relighting it. I usually place my incense outside, that way it gets sufficient airflow to help it burn. Just keep this in mind the next time you decide to burn one!
