Excellent TV fo The Money
The first TV had a failed back light, replaced the next day by Amazon. Superb service. The working TV is amazing for the price. I prefer brightness over pure blacks (OLED) for TV watching. This mini LED deals with blooming well, however, is noticeable with high brightness against light words or small objects against pure blacks. If that's a deal breaker then it's OLED for you. For bright room TV watching it's superb. HDR really pops, Google TV OS is nice with limited lag on this TV. I got the 55 inch version and couldn't be happier for the cost. TCL knocked it out the park this year. This isn't far off from my Samsung QN90D which is about 50% more expensive. Would highly recommend this TV as a second TV or bedroom TV.

Good value
For the money, this is an excellet 40" TV which we have solely connected to the internet to offer a range of live and on deman tv. We access the standard terrestial channels as well as their catch up option, Apple TV, Prime TV and Netflix. Set up was incredibly simple and we were ready to view within minutes of installing it on the wall. Two feet are provided to make an optionmal stand but we did not require these. Operation is simple and the TV starts quickly. We found the standard LED on the lower central edge a bit annoying as this unit is installed in our bedroom. We opted to use a Tapo plug to isolate the mains power, which results in the TV taking longer to start up but as we don't use it that much it doesnt really effect us. The remote is simple to use and has the option to use Alexa to control various elements. We are a bit old fashioned in this regard and simply prefer to press buttons to access what stations and option we require. It is pretty good to control and every bit as good as the LG model costing over 6 times the price of this item which is in our sitting room. In terms of picture quality, this item punches above its weight and whilst it isn't as good as our LG TV, it isnt that far behind for standard viewing. The weak point I suppose is the sond quality, it isn't bad but this illustrates that this is a budget priced TV. So it doesn't have the dynamic range of our main TV, nor is it as good as a further TV we have with a Bose soundbar, however, it does have a remarkably small price point which at £169.00 to use represented extraordinary value for money for a TV used mainly to watch the breakfast news with limited use during the day. One additional thing that this TV has encouraged me to do is to access you tube, which I haven't really done before, prefeerring to rely on my iPad. This TV has made me realise on what I have missed! Great TV, well woth the money and 5 stars. Recommended.

Saved over £1200 on competitor Options
Terrific TV. It replaces the 65" Samsung. I looked at a 75" Samsung but when I researched TLC and videos on YouTube I decided to go with TLC in the full knowledge that Amazon always accepts returns if you are not satisfied. The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars is it lost a star for the stand. The stand is more plastic than carbon composite as with the Samsung. This caused the 75" TV to tilt forward. We had to put some supports under the front of the stand. Otherwise wonderful picture and the sound system is very good, though not exceptional but I saved over £1200 on the identical Samsung and Sony offerings. Looking forward to all those Christmas Movies 👌

Great Picture and Sound Level...Close to OLED Quality
My living room already has a fantastic 65inch LG OLED, and I was going to buy a smaller OLED for the bedroom but thought I'd take a chance on The TCL 50QM8. Good (and much cheaper!) decision! After a 15 mins physical set-up followed by connectivity set-up via the Google Home app on my phone, my fussy eyes were immediately happy with the superfine colours, including wonderfully deep black levels that I got used to on my OLED. Sound wise, I was surprised by how loud it gets; overall sound quality is superior to other sets of this size and perfect for day-to-day viewing. For bass lovers like me, my old soundbar and sub will be handy, but they are not essential; the QM8 is a very good all-round performer. I was worried that I might be disappointed with the viewing angles, but they are absolutely fine. The split/multi-screen feature was a surprise, allowing me to watch live TV and You Tube (or something else) side by side from my phone via screencast. I can then switch between both feeds to listen to the audio for the one I want to hear. As other reviewers have pointed out, BBC iPlayer, 4, and other UK specific TV apps are not included, so a letter in the box asks you to make contact with TCL if you require a fix. I contacted them and they put me through hoops with their requirement for proof of purchase in the form of a VAT invoice. What/why?!! My official Amazon order invoice/number wasn't good enough. So, after a back and forth of emails and me sending the invoice from Amazon, the Chromecast dongle was sent the next day. TCL, that's 0 stars from me for your polite but nonsense apps/dongle issue. If you're going sell your televisions in the UK, then please ensure that they perform as expected out of the box. The missing apps dongle nightmare aside, the remote works well but isn't backlit like the US model. The voice control works hands-free or by the press of a button, and you can also use Alexa to control functionality. The Google smart features work fast enough for me, and definitely quicker than my LG Web OS. Overall, this is a great TV at a reasonable price. Update, July 2024: I decided to return the QM8 and go for the C38K 55 inch instead, mostly because the picture quality is just as good but is 1500 nits rather than the over-bright 2000 nits (for my bedroom) on the QM8 - as confirmed by TCL, but I wanted the built-in subwoofer, which makes an audible difference, even if only slight. The price was exactly the same, thanks to an Amazon deal offer. Again, the picture quality and overall performance is the same, but bass sub matters to me. TCL also confirmed that they will be rolling out a firmware update within the next month or so that will install the missing Apps, doing away with the need for a dongle. We shall see! Update Nov 2024: TCL have added many TV Apps including 4, ITVX. Still no BBC iPlayer app, but you can cast it to the TCL from your phone and it works just fine. Will update further in due course.
