Why doesn't the cap stay on?

The cap is special. You have to push down on it to unscrew it. If you are just setting the cap on it won't stay. Screw it back on.

How do you close the cap? It's 2 pieces & I pressed down the outer cap to engage the inner cap to unscrew & open, but now I can't seem to close it?

The cap on the tube I have does not come apart into 2 pieces, and I think the cap on the tube you have should not have done so. All I can suggest is to try to screw the inner cap on by itself and see if that works.
