It’s 2 strand twist. That means it’s a bunch of cords like the video mentioned-but a bunch of strings in one strand and another then those two twisted together to make 1 strand. So, to answer the question it is 2-ply.

I'm looking for cord to sew baskets and trivets. I have been using clothesline cord. Is this cord to soft to use?

this cord is soft. I don't think it would work well for baskets, but would be fine for trivets. I used it to crochet around a round styrofoam for a wreath and it was great.
