Absolute perfection
Should’ve bought this way sooner than I did. It’s absolutely gorgeous. The brass lnob on top is the cherry on the cake. Easy to grind. Easy to adjust. I didn’t find any plastic on it. Nice large size to hold plenty of you grind a bit and so much comes out. It’s the best pepper-mill I’ve ever owned and the price is justified by the quality and ease of use. There’s no chemical smell to it. It’s smooth all over, they really sand it down well. The color is amazing on it, no mistakes on it. Nice to have something crafted this well in my kitchen.

Bought one for me and one for a gift!
It’s our go to pepper grinder. I cook a lot and love using this. The fine is very fine and you can easily adjust to make it as course as you want.

Re-discovering pepper all over again.
This grinder has allowed me to re-discover pepper all over again. I used to grind my pepper in one of the disposable types that some spice companies package their pepper in now. That can be tasty, but I now realize that the flavor is not nearly as potent unless you begin to use a nicer grinder such as this Peugeot model. I had a direct comparison because I moved peppercorns from my disposable grinder to this one and there was still a noticeable difference in flavor. The pepper is spicier and like magic. You can easily change the coarseness of the grind. Refilling is a breeze. It feels nice in the hand during use. Looks great on the counter. I'm interested to see if the salt version is worth the money! I might even buy one or two more of these pepper grinders so that I can have one for my white and pink peppercorn grinding too!!

Almost perfect...
***UPDATE*** 6-20-18 I called Peugeot customer service directly after thinking this item should really work better. They had me send my mill in to them for review. After reviewing, they showed me (via pictures) that the peppercorns (basic Walmart (Sam's choice) black pepper) I was using were too LARGE. I needed to use smaller ones. They loaded the mill with correctly sized corns and gave me a package of refills at no charge. I immediately tried it upon receipt and it works perfectly. So, if you are having trouble with yours, try using smaller diameter peppercorns. You will likely find it works just fine :) I am now a happily peppering again!! Still holding back a star as I feel the mill should not be so size restricting, but increased to 4. Pictures show original corns vs the smaller "correct" size ones. Also mill can now be adjusted to grind from coarse to very fine. ____________________________ Original review... Less functional than I expected for what is a world renowned mechanism. Peugeot grinders are some of the best around. This one falls short of expectation. The mill itself feels very good. The wood is nice and construction is solid. The issue is entirely with the mechanism. It seems that the pepper corns don't consistently engage into the grinder. So, you turn the mill, crank away and nothing seems to be grinding until finally you get corns to engage and get ground. This is likely what others are experiencing when describing uneven or uncontrollable grind. I just found that you need a little patience and several extra turns to get it to grind properly. This should not be so with this brand. I have several others that grind perfectly from the first turn, but are also much larger (and expensive) than this one. It's annoying and disappointing though not quite enough for me to send it back. If this is your only grinder and you want a good one, spend a little more and pass on this one. You won't truly be happy with it.

Great classic pepper mill. For those who want a simpler, time-proven design
When I first started using this pepper mill, I didn't think it was particularly special. However, I've since had a chance to compare with other popular (and well reviewed) units such as the Cole & Mason, and came to the conclusion that Peugeot's design has lasted the test of time for good reason (don't get me wrong, the C&M is a fine unit, too). The mill is solid in the hand, and just has a lovely, classic overall feel. The only downside, if I'm being nit picky, is that loosening the top screw (to make course grinds) makes the top cap jostle, thus giving the overall unit a somewhat clumsy experience. Would definitely buy again

Sturdy. Great grind.
Based on reviews here and on other sites, the Peugeot pepper grinders have a good reputation. They may seem more expensive, but as someone who has purchased multiple other (less expensive) grinders, price may indicate quality for the Peugeot. I have used this grinder for a couple of months now. I wanted to try it out prior to purchasing another for a family member over the holidays. I really do like it. The grinding mechanism is sturdy and most whole pepper corns feed well into the grinder -- especially black pepper -- producing uniform grains that can be large and "cracked" all the way down to powder. Pink peppercorns, which apparently are in a whole different family than "real peppercorns" are much softer and moister than regular black peppercorns and required a lot more shaking to let the grinder work properly. Mixtures of black peppercorns and pink pepper work OK if there is more than 75% black in the grinder. I love this grinder, and did buy another that works just as well! Recommended!

Very sad. Not impressed at all.
Like everyone else is saying about the manual grind design, the top knob doesn't stay in place and the grind constantly changes. Extremely disappointing and I hate to say that because Peugeot was so good. Now they look pretty but for one who expects consistent performance, they’re no longer the king of the mills. Also a huge disappointment are all the plastic internals. Cheap plastic and don’t like plastic parts with my peppercorns. I unfortunately will be returning mine. I cleaned up my 20+ year old original and am loving it more than ever especially now knowing how superior it is to the current production model. Also, if I absolutely had to replace it, I found many vintage Peugeot peppermills available online of the older design. That's where I would go to look until Peugeot realizes their problem and fixes it. Very sorry Peugeot but you did this to yourself. Revised 9/4/23: yes it’s still a shame. I just bought an antique and it’s perfect! It’s about 100 yo and traveled through Europe and eastern US finally ending up on my kitchen counter in CT. They were bought and sold as lifetime pieces back then to be used for generations. I Bought it from a restaurant that knew the travel history. They were the best mills in the world way back then.
