Cut through 8x22 area of hard, rocky soil in 10 minutes! Awesome piece of equipment!!
This thing is amazing. Granted, this is my first experience with any tiller/cultivator, so I really have no basis for comparison. But having said that... I can say that this has already paid for itself on the first use.It took about 5 minutes to put together... and a 5 year old could do it.The battery comes with 1/2 charge right out of the box. Took about 40-45 minutes to bring it to full charge from there. My immediate use for this was to clear out an area on the side of my house... which has proven difficult because the soil over there is rock hard and using standard hand tools was proving back breaking. This little guy cut through the whole area in 10 minutes on the level II setting. That ended up depleting half of the battery life according to the lights on the battery. (Not sure how long it would have lasted on level I)It honestly took my longer to rake out the weeds and rocks than it did to till this whole area (approx 8' x 22')I do wish the battery life was a little longer considering how long it takes to charge (estimated 90 minutes from empty). But considering the work it does, I can see why the working life is so short. In that same light... I can't really see the need to buy a 2nd battery. At nearly $150... its not really justified considering you'll probably be done working whatever area you're tilling within a single battery charge. It can get a little jumpy when working... probably because the thing only weighs just over 20 lbs. So, that adds to the maneuverability, but also adds to the occasional instability. Generally speaking though, this tiller is very easy to handle. I honestly can't wait to use this on another area in the front yard.Just based on how well this worked, I wish Mantis would come out with a whole suite of lawn/yard care equipment that used this battery pack. I would buy all of it.

The name on the unit is Mantis. The tool isn't what I know as Mantis.
Sad. California does not allow the Mantis gas tiller to be sold here, so I tried the electric. Opened the box, looked at the blade, closed it back up and returned it. Unless you're tilling sand, I see it as useless.I've had a 7920 gas model for over 40 years...worn two out. There is simply no comparison.

Best battery powered to total per - best Mantis; product
This 58 Volt Mantis Rototiller is light, easy to handle and amazingly powerful. Battery life sporadic use, low speed, is well over an hour. Battery life steady use, high speed is about 20 minutes. Battery recharge time is about, 45 minutes. I bought along with a second battery. Ripping sod and rototilling out 16" x 16" holes requires high speed. Nearly everything else works well with low speed. A new garden plot of larger size (20' x 20' or larger) you probably want to use a full size gas rototiller. For maintenance tilling and weeding this Mantis would work fine. This 58V Mantis is much quieter and easier to use than the gas models and in my opinion (3 prior gas Mantis tillers) just as capable. Great torque without the slamming effect when hitting rocks. Loosens and pushes out surprisingly large rocks/stones without damaging blades. After two 80' x 4' garden preps, including sod rip out and 48 - 16" deep x 16" wide holes, I am incredibly impressed and a committed user! This is the real deal!!

Performance of tiller/cultivator
I studied reviews for battery operated tiller/cultivators and determined the Mantis battery operated was my best option. Years ago I had a gas powered Mantis. The tiller arrived and I assembled it easily. This appeals to me as a very senior citizen. I read the manual, charged the battery and was ready to go. Then it rained. Very beneficial, but that postponed cultivating. .So far I am only cultivating and the battery lasted 30 to 40 minutes. I recharged the battery, which did just take about 100 minutes. I finished the job and am pleased with the results. I do walk backwards as suggested and that is important. The battery is loaded easily and removed easily. (Some battery operated equipment the release is so hard to use.) i do like the lights on the battery that show how much battery power remains. This garden is approximately 1100 sq. feet. There is no way I could hoe the ground between rows in 1.5 hours. I am pleased with the performance.

Low powered compared to former 120 volt version
Low power, I was disappointed.Roots the size of a pencil lead slowed it dramatically. I had owned a 120 volt version of this for 15 years and it would go through most anything. It finally gave out and the 120 volt version is no longer offered so I bought this battery powered version…a big disappointment.

This battery Mantis is awesome.
I've owned a gas Mantis for years. My first tilling with this one far exceeded my expectations. I was skeptical at first, wondering how long the battery would last. I was tilling hard, caked dirt that hadn't been tilled for a couple years. The battery lasted over an hour and by the time it ran out of juice I was basically done. On the hardest dirt it bounced a bit, but my gas Mantis did that as well. I was able to till deep enough to the level of the shield. Very impressed. It's very light and easy to carry. I will probably buy another battery even though they're pricey but the convenience of a 2nd battery would be nice. It's doesn't take too long to completely recharge the battery.
