It has a loud alarm and can be interconnected with other smoke and CO alarms. However, the battery life is not very long, the alarm may not be loud enough for some users, and some users may find that the alarm goes off too frequently due to false alarms. Additionally, the alarm may not last as long as some users would like. I would rate this product 3.5 out of 5 stars.

First Alert, a company that still cares about the environment
Pros of First Alert Brand of detectors* Made in Mexico* Maintains a take-back hazardous waste disposal program - for ionization smoke alarms.* comparable pricing to other brandsCons:* Might need to change the hardwire and interconnect pigtails if replacing a different brand of smoke detector* For SC7010BV, only the originating smoke alarm will voice announce the fire -- the other interconnected alarms only beepI replaced several FireX/Kiddie smoke & CO alarms with First Alert models SC7010B, SC7010BV, & BRK 3120B. Changing the power and interconnect pigtails isn't hard, but I purchased the First Alert BRK ADF-12 adapter plugs [ASIN: B0039PJK40] to make the process easier for the many alarms that I had. Each alarm took less than 10 minutes to replace. The process was straightforward: Replace the faceplate, connect the adapter plug and connect the First Alert smoke alarm. Easy-peezy! It's been only a short time since they have been installed, but no false alarms yet!Ionization smoke detectors contain a small amount of radioactive material (1 micro curie of Americium 241). The radioactive element needs to be disposed of at a radioactive waste facility. Some municipalities offer to dispose of the ionization alarms properly, while others to do not.As of Sept 2019, FireX/Kiddie discontinued it's take-back disposal program. The Kiddie website now states: "Typically, alarms may be disposed of in your regular, residential trash. Verify with your local municipality regarding disposal ordinances before disposing of an alarm."This is so egregious! Kidde isn't a responsible manufacturer when it comes to handling their product at end of life. What happens when your local municipality does not have a safe disposal program for the radioactive material in ionization detectors? Kiddie is flaunting that they simply do not care about the environment. That alone is the reason to purchase from First Alert instead of Kiddie - First Alert has continued to maintain its take-back hazardous waste disposal program. Think about the future generation when deciding which smoke detector to purchase! In the end, I'm happy with my purchase knowing I gave my money to First Alert, a company that still cares about the environment!!

Easy battery replcement
Does not plug and go with other first alert units (as advertised) - plan on a bit of rewiring if you were hoping to avoid that (I was!) Beep is not as shrill as the other combos I have, but still good enough to make the dog run for cover during start up/ testing. Not sure I like the voice too much. Maybe someone screaming would better get my attention from a dead sleep. Easy battery replacement of 2 AAs instead of the old 9v freak battery. Seriously, who keeps 9v on hand for anything else?

A brand you can trust!
When it comes to smoke/CO detector my trust will always be with First Alert/BRK. Our old octagonal-shaped First Alert Smoke/CO detector combo similar the one in this review literally saved me and my family from carbon monoxide poisoning. These latest version Smoke/CO detector combos from this brand seem to be well built and feature filled. It uses Photoelectric sensor for smoke detection, as opposed to the false-alarm prone Ionic sensors. The units I received are fairly new and not old stock. I bought these in April 2022. The manufacturing date stamp is March 2022. The alarm is loud but not ear piercing. It sounds more of a loud buzzer rather than an earsplitting beep. Voice alarm is also a plus and identifies the type of alarm – Smoke or CO. It tells you what it detected and to evacuate! However, for multiple interconnected alarms the voice only activates on the triggering unit. The rest will just sound the buzzer – 4-Beeps for CO, 3-Beeps for Smoke.Installation is fairly straight forward for the DIY savvy. Since these are hardwired, individuals who are not comfortable working on electrical system may need to have these alarms professionally installed. If you’re looking for a hardwired Smoke/CO detector combo that you can trust and have a peace of mind, you won’t go wrong with these First Alert Smoke/CO combo.

Great protection
I believe it is a small price to pay for fire safety and I had these installed. There are 6 in my house. Fortunately, nothing has triggered the alarm but the test went well. Designed to say what room the issue is occurring. They could have more options for room names.
