The fuel system on your car counts on no air leaks in order to run properly. If you have an old or dirty gas cap it may not seal properly. This can cause your car to run roughly or waste fuel. It also puts an extra strain on other components like your fuel pump to deliver the fuel properly to your engine. In some states, like mine, fuel cap pressure is part of the inspection test. If your fuel cap is faulty you may fail the inspection and have to come back again or pay the station a much higher price to replace your cap. Replacing the old cap is easy. Assuming the old tether is still there and has not broken, you can just pull out the old one and dispose of it. In my case the tether was too strong on the old cap so I just cut it and let the small piece fall down into the car panel. Then you simply insert the tether where the old one was, clean the fuel filler pipe to make sure there's no dirt or grease, and install the new gas cap. I have two GM cars that use the same filler cap and this fits both. This kit comes with a cap for each of my cars. And, it costs far less than a single cap from an inspection station. These caps look exactly like the original version that came with my car. It works just as well as the old one did when it was new.
