got one but never work straight from box where can i take to repair

Anything can be fixed! Especially Sony items. Tell me where you live and depending on that info I will help you find a repair shop. I have a new one of these for sale as well and I guarantee everything I sell whether new or used? But if we can find you a certified repair station that is the way to go.

I had to split vhs onto 2 discs because "disc full" at 45 mins. i finalized both discs, but won't play in bluray. what's wrong?

The Sony VRD-MC6 does not record Blue Ray DVD's. Only standard DVD's. To increase the amount of time of the recording you need to change the quality of the recording. You are currently recording in HQ (the highest quality) which is why you got only 45 mins. Go to setup and change the recording quality to SP and you'll get two hours on one DVD. The quality doesn't matter because the original VHS is recording in low quality.

Can you play burned dvd's on other players?

Yes we were able to have them played on other devices. There at times were issues with discs burning correctly but most of the time it was a faulty disc and not the burners fault.
