I'm in love.
I'd never played the dulcimer before, until I bought this beauty. I'm head over heels in love with this thing. It was easy to learn, I've had it for about two weeks and I can already play 10 songs, 2 of which are original. And I'm no instrument virtuoso. The sound is a lot better than I thought it would be since it's not very expensive, and while I do believe that eventually I'm going to graduate to a nicer one, I'm sticking with the dulcimer, I'm absolutely sold.

Fine beginner instrument
I've been playing for 5 months and have used this instrument to learn....consists of a cardboard soundbox which sounds surprisingly crisp.....you will need to purchase high-quality strings which are easy to replace because the furnished bass string just isn't right.

No 6.5 fret
Does this Dulcimer have a 6&1/2 fret?Answer:Yes, there is a 6.5 fret on this dulcimer.By West Music SELLER on January 23, 2018So West says it does. Mine arrived without the 6.5. I purchased based on this answer.

Does not intone correctly after I changed the strings
This is an inexpensive student model mountain dulcimer. Mine has no 6 1/2 fret. It is designed to play in DAA (Ionian) tuning. By and large, the method books for mountain dulcimer will tell you to tune your instrument in DAD tuning (Mixolydian) and it becomes much more important to have a 6 1/2 fret.The real issue came when I restrung the instrument. The bridge is a cheap piece of plastic without proper grooves to hold the strings in place for proper intonation. After I restrung it, the melody string gets progressively sharper with each fret. I played around with it a great deal, even after I had purchased another dulcimer. A music store might be able to fix the bridge for you, but you would probably be better served to pay a little more for a better instrument.

I think the sound quality is good and it's a nice size
I bought this for our dulcimer group as a loaner for new players. I think the sound quality is good and it's a nice size. The only problem is that it did not have a 6 1/2 fret like the seller stated in the Q&A section of the product description.
