Good but could be better
Thought this would be more water resistant for a pamphlet that is made to take to the beaches and rivers

Nice pamphlet
Short but informative - lots of full-color photos. There's been some disagreement on the locations this guide includes, so here's what I could find: On the piece itself: The development of the guide was funded by the Canadian Geological Foundation. At the beginning the author mentions British Columbia, which is in the Pacific Northwest Region. It's published by Harbour Publishing, whose website says it publishes "books of the Pacific Northwest." I live in Ohio (Midwest USA) and have found several of the rocks listed near my home. Hope this helps.

GREAT idea, well executed!
This is a very understandable--and geologically accurate--guide to "geology" as most of us find it--in pebbles and other rocks that we pick up along our hikes and explorations. Written for east coast lithologies (rock types) this is a lucid, understandable, but not overwhelming, succinct guide to understanding the pebbles found in and around many New England streams--and also in the abundant glacial tills of the area. Covers the basics of what the rock is made of, and how OLD it's likely to be--and of course, what it's called. It's fun, it's portable, and it's a great field companion for kids (AND adults) on any hike--or even a stroll around the back yard.

great pictures
My 4th grade students use this field guide to identify many of the rocks in their annual rock collection project. The pictures are great and easy to reference. My only issue is that the price is a little steep for something so small.

It has great information but it is literally a pamphlet.

Factually correct, visually appealing
Best field guide for beach pebbles of WA-OR-BC! I teach geology (college/university and K-8th). I recommend this small, high-quality, laminated guide to all students and families.

but it's very easy to identify pebbles/rocks by the pictures and brief notes
It's only a pamphlet, but it's very easy to identify pebbles/rocks by the pictures and brief notes. I live in the Pacific Northwest, and I have been able to identify 20 different pebbles found in my own garden. I liked the library version but didn't want to return it! So, I ordered one for myself on Amazon.com. Like rocks? You will like this.

Canadian, not UK
Was disappointed that this is a guide for Canadian beaches, which I didn’t realise. OK, geology is geology, of course, but it does vary in different parts of the world!

Poor
A pamphlet of a few pages and pictures for the price is shocking. Disappointed.

Seen off
Thought I was getting a hardback book for the money - turned out to be just a paper leaflet. Only good if you live in the States. It's the kind of thing you get free at tourist information booths. Don't bother with it
