Really fresh with great buttery taste
Outstanding freshness and quality. I have bought these before and wasn't disappointed then either. I took a chance to buy online again because my local grocery store doesn't carry them any longer.

Bad Looking Dark Chocolate
I love dark chocolate and have bought these Bahlsen wafer cookies before and they're delicious, but somewhat difficult to find and somewhat pricey. When I discovered these on Amazon in a bulk case, I thought I'd give them a try and figured I could give the extra boxes (I don't need all 12 boxes in the case) as gifts to friends and family. The case arrived in good shape and since it has been about 60 degrees outside for the whole past week, I wasn't concerned about the chocolate melting or anything like that. When I opened up the first box, I was dismayed to see the dark chocolate looked discolored or oxidized. The cookies I had in the past were topped with a smooth, dark, glossy chocolate that clearly showed the Bahlsen logo and name, like the picture on the box. The chocolate on the ones I received were rough, dull, and inconsistent in color. They looked like really really old, ancient dark chocolate. I checked the expiration date to make sure these weren't boxes that slipped through the cracks and expired for decades, but the expiration date is 11/30/25, which is 8 months away, so not expired. I opened another box and it was the same dull, rough, oxidized-looking chocolate. I took a chance and ate one cookie from the first box I opened, and it tasted fine. The wafer cookie under the dark chocolate was still crisp. I just don't know why the chocolate looks like something that came over on the Mayflower with the Pilgrims. If I don't experience gastro-intestinal distress later in the day, I will assume the cookies aren't bad and still edible. Again, the cookie tasted good like the others I've eaten in the past, so I still gave 2 stars (which I will retract if Montezuma gets his revenge on me a few hours later). I'm hoping this is just an aesthetic issue and not a food safety issue, but either way, the chocolate looks so bad I can't imagine giving these boxes as gifts to anyone I care about, and since these aren't returnable on Amazon, I'm stuck with 12 boxes of cookies with suspect-looking chocolate.*Update* So I didn't have any issues after eating the cookies, they tasted great, so it is only a cosmetic issue with the chocolate. I want to report that Bahlsen reached out to me after I posted my review and they offered to make things right, which is extremely commendable and shows a level of customer service you don't see too much anymore and I have raised my rating accordingly.

The best cookie
Used at tea time. The best cookies around. Not too sweet, not too caloric. Crunchy
