My Christmas splurge, Is it still available? Used?
OK, I admit I grew up always a set of encyclopedias. never got it. I have the 225th anniversary collection and Britannica says this will be the last collectors edition. It was is must have. the 225th edition was that plastic coated paper back, This one is fully hard cover.Note: Britannica made a poor choice when computer software firms began looking for encyclopedia sets to put on a CD. BIG mistake, it ultimately bankrupted the oldest company producing encyclopedias. The name went through several owners. Nice thing is these are a collection of past issues, going way back. each entry tells you which edition the article is from, and the author.Fun because it shows how mankind was stupid, arrogant and just did not yet know. The 11st edition was a masterpiece and the used prices reflect it. softbound suede leather, as many as possible articles written by top people in their respective fields. Still much has since proven false, some entries are by today's standard racist, and so on.All in all, beside Wiki, which always needs to read with skepticism, This will be the closest i get to my set of encyclopedias I've always wanted

A tribute to the history of books
Great and beautiful book. I always wanted to have the Encyclopedia Britannica but now is not available anymore. This book is for me a kind of tribute to the history of the Encyclopedia but also to of the history of the physical book itself.

So much history in one edition!
I enjoy reading the submissions from years past and from noted writers.

Out of date.
This is not THE Encyclopedia Britannica. It’s a collection of random entries from old issues of the Encyclopedia. So what’s the point of buying an anachronistic, mixed-up version of the Encyclopedia that only includes a relatively small selection of entries? It’s not comprehensive or complete enough to work out as a useful encyclopedia.
