SHIMANO PD-EH500 SPD & Flat Dual Sided Bike Pedal for Indoor Cycling & Urban Riding

If you enjoy or are seeking a “two sided pedal”, this is an excellent and affordable choice. I put about 25,000 miles (over three years) on my first set of these pedals before buying a new set; and I didn’t buy a new set because the old one wore out, I just wanted a “shiny new set”. Getting in and out of the clipped side of the pedals is smooth and easy, and they secure very nicely to my shoes. The non-clipped side of the pedals have many protrusions and efficiently keep my shoes from sliding off the pedals.

I’ve been riding clipless pedals for more than a decade. These things are great. They clip easy, unclip easy and don’t unclip when they shouldn’t. I initially thought I was going to be displeased with the single side clip but it’s been pretty easy to get it right. I bought them for my gravel bike and might replace the ones on my mountain bike. They’re just that good!

Nice pedals; but they are NOT black or even charcoal gray, but rather a very distinct metallic blue-gray. If you are particular about color, this may annoy you. Aside from this, Shimano SPDs are my go-to pedals, I put them on all my bikes. But they should really fix the color on this model to be neutral. Black would work for everyone.

I purchased the SHIMANO PD-EH500 pedals for my Zwift setup with a KICKR CORE trainer, and they’ve already made a huge difference! I had been using the pedals that came with the bike, which honestly looked like they belonged on a child’s bike. I already had Shimano clips for my shoes (which I use on my Trek hybrid road bike), so I wanted something versatile that could also work for my spouse, who doesn’t have clip-in shoes. These pedals are perfect! The double-sided design gives us both options: I can clip in for a smooth, efficient ride, and my spouse can use the flat side with regular shoes. I’ve only used them once so far, but I can already tell they’re a game-changer. My ride felt so much smoother, and my feet stayed in one place on the pedal—exactly what I needed. If you’re looking for a reliable, versatile pedal for both clip-in and casual rides, I highly recommend these. Perfect for Zwift and beyond!

I love it. It is not for pro, is for someone who wants be able to do both, use a clip and still ride with normal shoes.

Clipping in with these and the Shimano sandal clip-in shoes made for an enjoyable ride. Hopefully I get a bike again and get another set of these for it (long story short: hit by truck, quit biking for now -- not sure who else wanted me dead).
