Good Binchotan!
My first time grilling with Binchotan and the meat came out delicious! No smoke besides when the meat juices dripped down and they lasted for a long time. They crackle like glass when hot. Each charcoal piece can last you at least 2 grilling sessions or more if you extinguish them after use. Here's some tips if you're starting out.In order to properly light them, set a layer of charcoal briquettes in your chimney starter and then add the binchotan on top, and then pile on some more briquettes to cover. Take it from me, the first time I didn't know what I was doing and spent hours trying to get these lighted with no success. Wait until they turn white or burning red (20-30mn) and then they're ready to use!My package did come with a giant hole on the bottom... so I can't say if I was missing any pieces, but mine came with roughly 5 pieces I believe. These are pricey, but they claim it's made from Japanese Oak so hopefully it's the real deal. I'm skeptical if the other brands on Amazon make their charcoal from actual Japanese Oak, hence offering a much better price with larger quantities. Either way, had a great experience with this charcoal but if you want to do a lot of grilling, it starts to get pricy.

Real Binchotan to try
This is a pretty small batch, but what is here is extremely quality. It takes a while to light but once it's going it's such a quality fire and steady heat. Minimal smoke. Fantastic first experience with this material.

If you don't know how to light it, you may have trouble
This is a high quality product. Due to it's nature, it is very hard to light. But once you get it going, it add's a pleasing layer of flavor to your coal cooking.

Take your time do it right
First let me say you must have patience and a proper grill. I built mine out of clay high fire brick and it took me back to the streets of japan as a child. Price is steep but you pay for quality. This is not for hamburgers you must be cooking elevated dishes or it is wasted. Build a fire out of oak kindling. Then set the binchotan on top for 30 minutes. You will need to start at least an hour before you are ready to cook! The results are worth it!

Amazing longevity
This was my first time to use Binchotan charcoal so it took me a while to figure out how to get it lit, but once lit it burns amazingly hot & clean. I've extinguished the same 3 pieces 3 times and they are still probably good for 1 or more uses. Certainly will purchase again.

Excellent binchotan for the perfect yakitori flavour
Excellent binchotan that is worth its high price tag. The coal burns cleanly and one can use it for 1.5 grill sessions. This coal is essential to make restaurant style yakitori or Yaki niku

Value
It don’t make any sense to buy 6-8 small coal logs for that price. I’ll never buy again.
