I love these balls
A relative of mine was extolling the praises of these. It's fair to say I was a bit dubious. I mean, come on, wool balls in your washing. But they're brilliant. They soften up your laundry without having to use fabric softener - basically by pummelling them. They don't bang and clatter like the plastic ones you get. And because they don't use chemicals to soften your clothes, they're perfect for things like babies clothing, or if you have sensitive skin. They improve the speed of the drying in your tumble dryer, by getting in between things and improving air circulation. Only by maybe 10%, but over time that builds up to a cost saving on electricity. They dramatically cut down on static, so your load is less stuck together. It doesn't eliminate it altogether, but enough so you're not always having to peel things apart. The only thing I would say is that some places on the internet suggest adding essential oils to scent your laundry. I wouldn't recommend it if you're doing a heated load in your dryer - oil and heat not a good combination, and it can scorch the oil and you end up with an acrid smell (plus oil + heat runs the risk of fire). The trick is to keep a couple of balls out of the load. Put a couple of drops of essential oil on them and leave them to stand for about half an hour (maybe do this whilst your load is drying with the rest of the balls). You need to give the oils time to soak in. Then when your load is dry, put those scented balls in and run it for 10-20 minutes on a no-heat setting.

Better than the blue plastic spiky ones
We previously used the plastic balls but after a while the spikes would break off and end up lost in the tumble dryer. These seem much better and do a really good job, even if they are a little more expensive. It remains to be seen if we need to use all 6!

Reduces ironing!
These are lovely, using 3 at a time at the moment. They seem to make a difference to the clothes in terms of not so many requiring ironing, which is great. One of the balls went a bit wild though and ended up throwing it away as it went all fluffy and the fluff started coming off on the clothes! Otherwise the other balls are still perfect.

Maybe?
I honestly can't tell if they have any effect on drying time or make your clothes any softer. Plus they leave tiny strands of wool all over your clothes.

Fluffy fibres all over clothes!
I had high hopes for these natural wool balls and they do seem to make the clothes softer and dry faster but the amount of fluffy fibres they shed is just unacceptable for me. I had to lint-roller an entire dark wash after using them. They may save energy in the drying but not MY energy in having to de-fluff everything. Also, there was a lot of fluff left in the machine which had to be cleaned out. The price was good for six balls and I did not find them noisy in use but I'm not sure if I will persevere with them for everyday laundry. I may just save them for puffy jackets etc. If the balls could come in individual little cotton bags to contain the fluffy fibres, I'd be happier to pay more and give them a higher rating.
