I have purchased this for my 6 year old daughter as she is a big fan of all things rock related and I thought this might be a way to channel her energy into learning about the world around her. The case is neat and the included materials are varied and unique. If I had a complaint it would be that the individual rocks are a little on the small size (think a marble) but for the price it's hard to beat

I bought this for my 4 yr old granddaughter and was expecting them to be loose so she could hold and evaluate them. They are glued in the case so I returned them. However if that is what someone is expecting they are great. I am updating this review as I have been charged for this item even though I have returned it. There is no number to call to discuss this with any one so I'm hoping this will get some ones attention and contact me.

The stones are somewhat small and they are glued into the box. On the one hand that makes them stay in place and the specimens won't get lost - but I had hoped to put them under a microscope for more detailed study. Small booklet that comes with it explains some of the minerals - but the selection is not blinky blink enough to gain much attention from my 5 year old. Maybe a bit later...

Nice assortment, mostly good specimens, well mounted, sturdy box, all at a relatively good price. Works very well on the science table in my classroom

This is excellent. I'm a science professor buying it for fun for daughter who is a geo/bio/chem major. Very nice!
