My Mom Loves It
Really, what more is there to say? I had been looking for this movie at local stores for ages. AGES. And I couldn't find it. So, where do people go to find things they want or need? Amazon. And what did I find? THE MOVIE I HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR FOR MONTHS!! Woo! Finally, I was able to give my Mom a Mother's Day present she literally almost cried over. Actually, I think she might have cried.Anyway, perfect DVD, great value, highly recommend it if you're into older films.

Excellent Eddy/MacDonald Entertainment
"Wonderful" is the best word to describe this Nelson Eddy/Jeanette MacDonald movie. The storyline, the chemistry between the stars and the terrific songs make this a movie to see.Duke Charles Henri de Vidier (Eddy), the grandnephew of the king and a captain in the royal navy, abandons his birthright to assist the commoners in their fight for freedom during the French revolution. Arrested and sentenced to die for his betrayal, he escapes and assuming the identity of Charles Michon, he arranges to have himself shipped as a bond servant to the New World.During the voyage to Lousiana, sparks of attraction fly when Michon meets Marianne de Beaumanoir who is headed to New Orleans to assume control of her family's plantation. On reaching her new home Marianne discovers Charles, who she mistakenly thought to be a ship's officer, has in fact been purchased as a servant in her own home, a situation that provides for numerous amusing exchanges.Despite the social taboo, love blossoms between mistress and servant, but the romance is short-lived when fate results in them being shipwrecked on an island where Charles is in charge, thus reversing their roles.Eddy & MacDonald are terrific in New Moon and the witty dialogue and comical situations provide all around entertainment. In spite of several similarities between this movie and their first (Naughty Marietta), New Moon is a movie worth every moment of the time to watch it. It is a "must see" for MacDonald/Eddy fans and is recommended for anyone who enjoys good clean fun.

Big Mac/Eddy Fan
I have this movie on vhs and it's one of my favorites. I've been waiting for it to come out on dvd and Amazon did it with their "Manufactured on Demand" offering. Although the B & W quality is a lot better than my vhs tape and the sound quality is excellent, which is of critical import in a Mac/Eddy film, I don't believe you'd consider this a remastered copy because it still contains a lot of black and white flecks popping around, but then that's not unexpected with a movie from the 40's. There is also one scene in particular, abt 35 minutes into the film, in a close-up scene with Mac/Eddy, where fine, white threads are quite noticeable across the screen. It's annoying but doesn't last too long, mainly through that scene. SO...if you're a fan like me, order this and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Don't let trivial interferences keep you from a meaningful experience! Afterall, you'll most likely have this movie for the rest of your lifetime. What more could you ask for?

New Moon stuns your senses!
Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy made their first appearance in the musical "Naughty Marietta' (1935). So very successful was the movie that five years later appeared a sequel, "New Moon." Motion picture technology had advanced, and the music and visual images will amaze you! For what was later termed "America's Sweethearts," this may be considered the duo's turning point together, eventually separating and going into solo mode in several films through the 1940's. Great music. Lovely stars. What could be better on a weekend get-a-way to another world of romance, adventure, and conquest?

I love this movie!
Never saw this one before. The tape was in good watchable condition and fast shipping. Very romantic duet of "Wanting You" is in itself worth watching! Wow, what chemistry these two had! I could listen to them sing all day! In fact, sometimes I do. :) The story is kind of a retelling of Naughty Marietta, isn't it? Except he's the royal masquerading as a servant. I love the ending on the island (man, this story is all over the place isn't it?) where she marries him so he'll protect her from the other men's advances...and yet, she falls for him. Very sweet. I wish our movies were more romantic like these old ones!

They don't make them like that anymore!
The DVD arrived quite quickly and soon I was caught up in the fantastic voices. Yes the film is old but the sound is good considering its age, it is sweet, strong and nostalgic as both singers were at their peaks. I was worried i may have to watch with the Portuguese subtitles but they can be turned off(in "Legends")so we have the original soundtrack in English. Wonderful!

Thoroughly enjoyable
What can I say re my 2 favourite singers of my youth - excellent singing. This is my second favourite (after Maytime)of the MacEddy films and since I bought it, I have watched it several times - sheer music escapism. Of course the stories are a bit 'ancient' but it is the voices of the lead actors that fascinate me. I wish these two had made more than 8 films together!
