Is it used to melt beeswax?

I am not sure that this would be the right product for melting beeswax it has a sensor that will turn off the heating element if covered.

will this really hold a boil at 600 watts?

Does a great job at achieving and maintaining a boil for extract kits. The double walled construction helps with heat retention.

Does this unit come with a cord & plug? What amps does it require?

Comes with cord and plug, the unit is 1600watts which is about 14amps. I would recommend a 20 amp circuit which is usually found in the kitchen area

Does the brew kettle separate from the heating bottom?

No, it does not. But it’s super easy to use and has made brewing day much better.
