We moved into our home four years ago after having it significantly renovated. For the record, don't renovate a house if you wish to maintain a healthy marriage.I didn't fancy having cat trees or scratching posts because they can look shabby and kind of crazy cat hoarder personish. Plus our cats have access to a cat proofed garden to scratch the trees, fence, and terrorize small creatures in. However despite this plethora of garden delights to destroy, they were still turning their attentions to our furniture. I don't think I had fully appreciated that cats actually need to scratch things at all hours of the day and night (always read the fine print when adopting three cats). And if you don't provide something they find things - like the brand new chest of drawers in the entrance hall, the leather sofa, the velvet covered dining room chairs, your lap first thing in the morning when you are checking your Instagram.I'm trying to convince my partner to get a new sofa (the old one is scratched to bits, stained, and looking like it belongs in the home of crazy cat hoarder people) and he resolutely refuses. "The cats will only destroy it," he says solemnly. This is when I suddenly stopped and realized that maybe he was right, and maybe we will never be able to own nice furniture again. Perhaps that’s a warning label that all cats should come with: By adopting this cat you will never be able to own nice furniture again.In the early hours of the next morning, around 4am - that golden hour inhabited by dark thoughts, abject regret and guilt about one’s life choices, I stared at the ceiling bleary eyed and had to agree with him. I imagined our family unpacking a beautiful sofa, placing a knock off Hermes throw over it, and setting into Lethal Weapon 2, only to hear the soul destroying sounds of one of our cats creating an ode in braille on the back of it. Fast forward 10 years, our kids leaving for college, my husband and I are standing in the doorway of our home with three elderly incontinent cats at our feet, and behind us a post-apocalyptic wasteland of destroyed furniture. The children don't visit much because of the smell of cat pee.Tired, beaten down, and desperate to find a solution, I dragged myself to my keyboard and arrived at the pearly gates of Amazon and found this product. The reviews were excellent, didn’t seem fake (they contained quirky details and photos) and I took the leap and ordered one.The delivery day arrived, and we had hardly unwrapped our scratcher when all three cats were investigating it and trying to claim it. There was an embarrassing scuffle, like at a Macy’s Black Friday sale, and fearing the already delicate social balance be tipped into full scale civil war, we ordered another on the spot.Two seems to do the trick between the three of them, and If they aren’t scratching in them they are sleeping in them. Strange given they are effectively lying in a bed of scratched up cardboard - but therein lies the mystery of cats for you. Does make me wonder why I have spent a small fortune on all the cosy padded cat beds around the house.One of my cats, the one we like to refer to as 'Destroyer of Worlds', has historically enjoyed performing her manicures with zesty abandon on the furniture, but now largely turns her attentions to these scratches instead. I can’t promise she will continue to desist from adding her artistic touch to our furniture, and don’t want to jinx this blessed current state of affairs, but she’s definitely not been at the sofa since these arrived. Although yesterday I did hear her have a small go on the fabric covered piano stool she was lounging in - you know, adding a bit of percussion.Like those who live in denial about climate change, I sometimes like to imagine that one day we will get a new sofa and the cats won't destroy it. We all have to dream.This a good product, the reviews are valid, 5 stars.

Both our cats love this lounge. One of our cats claws it all the time. Both cats take naps in it. Highly recommend.

My cats love it

I have come to the conclusion that what my cat, Mr. Tapeworm McRabies (a.k.a. "Tapers" when he's being good) and I value in a cat product are very different.I like to give him things that are: aesthetic or cute, soft, won't break the bank but don't appear to be garbage, etc. I also like to have the things that are mine that don't look good with cathair or claw marks to stay free of these things (silly me, I know).Tapeworm McRabies likes things that are (a) expensive, (b) discarded packaging, or (c) forbidden. Most preferably, at least 2 of these things.This leads to some frustration as he will play with the paper bags and packaging that I trip over and look like clutter to me, but not the adorable little pet toys and beds that came in them. Tapeworm will turn up his nose at the nice soft faux-sheepskin cat bed and instead sleep on the expensive leather chair or the pillows on our bed. He will ignore the nice cat scratchers I hang around and instead shred backpacks, luggage, shoes, the brand new upholstered bench, and anything resembling a bed skirt. He lives for my Amazon purchases because he adores the boxes they come in until I inevitably toss them. He will chew up (but not eat) any bread products not out of reach in a pantry, but refuse to play with catnip mice except to take the one swipe that places them firmly under the couch where he won't have to look at them.The most successful previous purchase that he and I could agree on was a Molly and Friends cat tree that is just too sturdy to destroy and met his criteria of being incredibly expensive. So...this product, which is essentially a 21 dollar cardboard box seemed worth a try.And he LOVES it! We keep it in the bedroom and he sleeps in it now most of the time. To me it looks like the most uncomfortable cat beds ever. To him it looks like something he can scratch, lay down in and plan ambushes from (I left one of the cardboard ends on it and he's constantly flattening down behind it and pretending we can't see him. And it's great because he's leaving the bed skirts and backpacks alone in favor of scratching this. It also gives him a place to sleep in the bedroom that's not our pillows.Plus, I do like that I can put catnip in it and he can roll around until his pupils are like platters (though this tends up up the ambushing). There is some litter from the shredded cardboard but it doesn't go too far and is easy to clean up. And thus far it's holding up well enough that it should last for some time.

We received it as a gift from my sister-in-law almost 5 years ago. It is his, Go- To, place of comfort. WE have since sent it to other cat lovers, and have heard nothing but positive responses.GREAT PRODUCT

This is my second time buying this. The first one lasted 15 years, though I had to buy a new cardboard insert a couple of times. My present cat and my previous cat both love and loved it. I think they sit in it as much as they scratch it. Highly recommend.

I have a 5 year old black domestic long-hair with a mean streak because his mother's owner didn't socialize him correctly when he was a kitten and also took the kittens away from their mother at 6 weeks (should be 8-12). We've been able to work through most discipline problems and he's turned into a good cat, but couldn't seem to keep his claws off the furniture. We've tried several scratching posts, but he turned his nose up at all of them, until I found the Scratch Lounge. I opened it up, sprinkled in some catnip (included), and he was in the box in under a minute. About 2 minutes later he started scratching it! I had a feeling this would work because he likes to climb in and play with empty boxes, like many cats...sometimes even sleeping in them. The Scratch Lounge is in a box format which was the key to getting him to use it. If you have a cat who loves empty boxes, but you can't get them to use a regular vertical scratching post, this may be the solution you seek. We had also tried some horizontal scratching posts but he didn't want anything to do with them...the secret is the large box format.
