Works for tapered posts; Won't damage the railing
Not the most beautiful looking but certainly the best solution for our stairway railing. The top of our stairs has 2 railing posts that are square at the base and taper off into a smaller, round top. There are no other solutions for this type of set up other than this. This has padded clamps that go around the top and bottom of each post. We tried the other stairway gate which had straps instead of the white clamps that go around the posts but weren't crazy about the zip ties. This seems like it's better suited for our situation. Once the children are older, it's easy enough to remove with no damage to our railing.

Great solution for mounting gates for your stairs
I used this product to to mount a gates on my upstairs and downstairs banisters. It feels a bit pricey but it's worth it to protect your banisters from holes. The clamps are solid and the idea is great. Two improvements I'd make on the product to make this five stars:1. The 36" wood piece is only 1" thick. A thicker piece would allow a longer screw to be inserted making the whole thing stronger2. Would be great if it could fit even wider banisters. Mine is ~5" on the bottom. I made due by mounting it on a thinner section higher up the banister. instead of the the bottomA few things to bear in mind for other buyers:1. Make sure you get screws that match the thickness of the wood piece to mount your gate. The screws that come with the gate may be longer than the wood piece is thick2. I "fortified" my wood piece with another piece behind it so that I can use a longer screw. My banister tapers so that was possible. Either way, you're going to want to use the longer screw possible to support your toddler applying pressure to the gate.3. Like other people have mentioned, the kit is ONLY for one banister. I had to purchase a total of three mounting kits because I had a banister to banister connection on one end of the staircase, and wall to banister on the other.

Great mounting kit
Awesome fit. They seem a bit overpriced for what you get but there doesn't seem to be a better gate mounting kit out there that I could find. I painted them to match my banister and custom built gates. Very happy how it turned out.The clamps with the wood block inserts do not have any rubber bumper like the rest of the contact points do. I added some cheap cabinet bumpers to the wood blocks to protect the banister where the wood block makes contact.

Great invention
Very well thought out product. The package contains all necessary bits and pieces for every possible situation. Installation of the collar on the round part of the pillar requires patience if you want to ensure that the collar is straight. Make sure you have a level. Installation also requires some basic DIY skills of sawing and drilling. But the result is impressive. Before finding this product I was scratching my head on how could I install a safety gate on the stairs with pillars without making holes in them. This set makes this task a no-brainer.

Perfect!
So happy we got these. We have square base and rounded posts so we needed these in order to use our baby gates. I painted the wood pieces the same color as our posts so it wasn’t super obvious. The gate at the top of stairs needs a taller strip of wood though, so I still haven’t installed it.

Sturdy and Perfect for Loft!
Perfect for our loft and banisters! Pieces grub really well and are adjustable for any height. I painted the pieces black with some basic acrylic paint, and used it with a Munchkin baby gate.
