These aren't holding a charge as long as I need. Can I replace the rechargeable power adapter with a plug-in adapter?

I would not try this as I would not trust their safety with the constant "on". Perhaps an electrician could convert different devices from battery to plug-in with various calculations to determine what power adapter will accommodate. By the time you purchase the materials, however, you could buy another set of plug-ins for your needs and use these somewhere else.

How long will these stay on with a full charge?

I don't leave them on continuously. I use them on a stairwell where they get triggered probably 40 times a night. They stay on for 30 sec, so maybe 20 minutes or 25 minutes of running per night. They last about 2-3 weeks on a charge before they start to dim. So I'd guess something like five to seven hours, but it's a guess. Continuous drain might deplete them faster.

Most likely it's the USB connector. It's just a bent piece of metal formed into a loop that is not even connected (at least ours were not). Wiggle the USB cord around until the light on the battery box glows red. Careful when you set it down to charge as the angle may disconnect the cable from making contact with the USB loop on the battery box. When it changes to green you're good to go.

Is this renter friendly?

The strips and controller ae attached by 3M adhesive, or the controller can be mounted on a surface which a magnet will attach to like a refrigerator, so this is not a permanent installation and could go with you if you move which I assume you mean by renter friendly. The LED strip to be reused may need adhesive reapplied by using a dual sided tape but I have repositioned the lights to a better place and they had enough adhesive to stick a second time so you might not have an issue as long as the area they were first mounted on was clean and free of oil, dirt,grime or lint which would cause the adhesive to be dirty. The controller/motion sensor and recharge unit also is not a permanently mounted item, but can be mounted with the adhesive strips attached to the magnets. If you are placing this in an area where the magnets can attach then you do not even need the adhesive strip. I used a set to provide under cabinet lighting and teh control magenticall stuck to the side of the refrigerator without any issues. I used 2 sets for safety lighting for stairs with motion sensor sensors one at the entrance to the stairs on each floor.level. Apparently there was a metal protection strip under the plaster on the upper level and the controller magnet easily stuck to that while on the lower level I had to use the tape to apply the metal strip to the wall so the controller could attach magnetically to that. Being able to move the controller would be handy when you need to recharge the unit and there is not a USN connection near to where the controller is placed. Of course you can also bring a laptop to the charge and recharge it that way,or use a power bank to recharge i. It continues to work and light up while being charged. I have not had a reason to remove the metal strips that the controller sticks to magnetically that I placed on the walls with the adhesive strip so cannot speak for whether it being remove caused any paint damage but that could well depend on what sort of surface you were placing it on. Wood or very smooth surfaces should not have an issue but it certainly could be possible that a texture wall or one with many paint layers or paper covering could peel a bit when the strips were removed, which might make it not 100% renter friendly as it could leave a mark. There is alway a rick with led strips if you apply them to walls that they too could pull a bit of paint or paper off some surfaces until very careful when removeing
