Not *that* tight a grip
So... the positive stuff. This thing is small enough to fit on a key ring, construction feels solid and it does what it says it will do - let you attach your large smartphone to a tripod.I've been using this device to record time-lapse videos with my iPhone and if I'm totally honest, I'm not very happy with this product. The grip isn't as tight as the name would suggest, a couple of times my phone has slipped out while I have been setting up a shot. I frequently shoot around water and this is terrifying for me - so I now have to be ultra careful with getting everything setup before putting my phone in. That said, if you only want to use it as a stand on your desk or whatever, It'll be perfect. I plan to modify this with some Sugru to expand the grip area and give me a more secure fit.

Joby GripTight XL - it works
Joby has been promising me the wider jaw version of the GripTight for over a year. It was beginning to look like "vapour". But it's finally here. The jaws open wide enough for a phablet type phone (I use a Galaxy Note). The build quality is far better than competing products (I've resorted to one and the screw socket lasted about four months).I have a small Arca Swiss compatible quick release plate on mine with a profile that keeps the GripTight entirely pocketable. And with the small plate it mounts on any tripod I have. So it works well Q/D on a good "table-top tripod" and such. The lip on the jaws are just deep enough for the phone to hold IN a decent case which is important. In my case an Urban Armor Gear case. Though I'm not sure it would cope with an Otterbox.I'm not a fan of phone cameras at all but the Joby GripTight XL helps - not least in low light. And of course for a timed release.

Grips really well !
The media could not be loaded. Was looking for a way of holding my smartphone steady while using the video camera. Already had a Joby Gorilla Pod Stand so thought that there must be a way of mounting this thing on that thing...and my friend Amazon had the answer.I looked at various cheaper looking options and decided to pay that little bit extra for the solution as my experience with Joby products had been good. The product arrived the next day.Yes it is a non assuming bit of plastic but it does its job really well. The spring is really grippy and holds the phone firmly in place. As you can see in the video I wasn't able to shake it from the mount.

Work well with tripod or on its own.
I have a Gorilla Pod and this work perfectly with it. I have a Sony Z3+ which has a bunch of buttons on the side making it slightly awkward to position this gripper, but it does the job even when it is positioned to one end of the phone, which is in a slim-ish case. With the phone in it actually works on its own as well. the 'foot' is just big enough to stand the phone up on when its in the gripper. I wouldnt risk it up high on a windy day but it could be useful if you didnt have place for a tripod or simply didnt have one.

Decent for indoor use
Pros:Small and highly portableLightweightGreat to use to stand your phone (in my case an iPhone 6 with a case) on a desk, table, shelf etcCons:Not so great if you're using to film/record on your phone - sometimes the grip gives way, or the stand topplesReally needs a super flat surface to be steady/sturdyNot great for outdoor use when it's windyOverall: great for indoor use if you're wanting to keep your phone on a desk. Wouldn't recommend for outdoor use.

Could be better
This is certainly a well made accessory but even so rather overpriced. Good points are the fact it folds absolutely flat and can easily be carried in a pocket and the tripod mount is of good quality. Disappointing is the fact that the phone can really only be used in landscape mode. Despite being able to easily rotate the mounting to accommodate portrait filming, the spring fixing is insufficient to ensure that the phone stays in place and doesn't drop out of the mount altogether!

Recommended, but ....
It's very good, it is good quality material and the spring seems fine. However having used it a few times I would have preferred it to have had a larger surface area which grips the phone. The clip part at each end is only just over 1 cm wide and since I purchased it to mount a Galaxy note 4 I think it would be better if the clamp was wider and therefore gripping more of the phone
