Q: Does this have the cork lid or plastic ?

Yes, it does have a red plastic lid which can be sometimes be difficult to get back correctly on the earthenware pot.Not insurmountale, however, when the contents are so good.

Q: what is the difference between Pommery meaux mustard and Pommery French meaux mustard from the same supplier - apart from the price?

I may be wrong but I would like to assume that both are French. The one that has 'French' in its title usually (always?) has wholegrain after it - so it's got crunchy bits in it. Look carefully at the volume of mustard in each case before comparing prices - sometimes it's hard to find out the volume of the pots - 500gm is fairly large. I'm sure all Pommery mustard is delicious!

Q: Does this have a best before date?

No idea, but this mustard is so good, it never stays round long enough for us to worry about it.

Q: How do I separate the red plastic lid from the jar? I have forced the lid away from the edge of the top but no further.

If I remember correctly you need to break the wax seal first, then cut the red ribbon. The lid seals very well, but it will open maybe use a screwdriver at first, but I can usually open with my hands after opening it the first time. It's worth it - I think it's the best mustard in the world.
