I would say that it would cover the nipples safely, but I don't know how much beyond that. It is about 5 1/2 x 6" and about 1 1/2" deep. I thought about wearing something under it.

Yes, this will probably give you enough coverage. Granted, this is not something you would want to wear by itself unless you are very small since the shells are flat rather than curving around your breasts.
