I bought this because I was going through all of my old hard drives and wanted to make sure nothing was on them that I wanted to keep before I destroyed them. I didn't want to have to open up a computer and plug them in one at a time, and this made it easy. I did end up with 2 hard drives that it wouldn't read (in windows). One of them (I believe) is formatted in EXT3, which makes sense that windows could not read it. The other is probably a failed drive out of an old NAS that I regrettably didn't label. I was able to read about 9 other drives without needing to open any computers though, so I'm pretty happy with that. I'll try the other drive in Linux and update my review afterwards.*edit*I tried it in Ubuntu 22.04, and it can mount drives with no issues. I was also able to boot from a drive in the dock.

I used this to clone a 10 year old HDD to a SSD and the offline clone worked flawlessly, took just over 4 hours! Which is faster than I expected. Highly recommended!

Easy to use and attach and is great for backup drives.

I only tested it with hdd (no ssd) and I was able to copy files from one disk to the other via windows at the max speed of the slowest of the 2 hdd, as expected.It was able to recognize disk > 2tb but I don’t have anything to test >= 4tb, it advertises support for 16tb.One quirk is that if you start with one disk the hotplug a second, it will first disconnect then both disk will reconnect, some 3.5” disk take a little as they spin up but of the 6 or 7 I tested none failed. I am not sure hotplug is safe just stating the observed behavior.I did not test the one button clone feature as that’s not something I need.During a few 5h long sessions of data copy it never disconnected … the disks can get hot (especially the 7200 kind) independently of this unit but because they are mostly exposed an external fan pointed at the unit at an angle kept them cool.For the price I am happy, I used it quite extensively for a couple of weeks and it worked well for my use case (aka hdd file copy), time will tell if it’s also durable.

Worked exactly as advertised and it saves me from having to open the case on my new computer to insert it. Haven't noticed any lags so far, but then, I am doing playing high-end games off of it.

This HDD docking bay worked perfectly for my HDDs. plugged into my windows desktop without a problem.

For the $$ it is really pretty good. I don't think it is really USB 3. It is REALLY SLOW. Unlike the photos, the activity lights are really dim and small. The clone button is also really small with lettering that is hard to read.. If you don't have good light you can really see any of them. And why couldn't they make the adapter a little bit less wide so that you could fit it next to a plug on most power strips? I couldn't get my MAC to recognize any hard drive using the device but it worked fine on a windows pc. Still if you just want easy access to loose hard drive it does the job for not much money.
