Q: Does this cone in white? If not what kind of paint do you use?

Mine was black, honestly can't remember of any color options. I painted mine green using plastic spray paint. You will need to scuff them really well and clean off any residue before painting. Be careful not to scrap them during installation . My two are holding up well in the Florida morning sun. I used plastic spray paint

Q: Are the edges the same thickness as the screen?

Yes Big panel with cut outs. Same thickness across panel. I Use mine to cover up storage under my RV

Q: is this strong enough to use for a dog crate? (dog doesn't try to break out of crate)

As a barrier, yes. The plastic is thick enough and strong enough to hold back a dog. I guess it depends on how you create your dog crate. If you buy a few of these and attach them in some way together to create a box, so long as the attachment points are strong, the panels themselves won't break.
